...only manufacturing 10 keys per vehicle throughout it's life - they also do not release keys on salvage title vehicles. (whether for theft or random keys floating around or whatever) On earlier models you can sometimes locate people who can cut BMW keys...but after '96 they had chips in key...so you had to rekey the whole dang thing. Hello $2000.
